Cyber Monday has come to a close, but festive, digital activity with purpose is kicking off with GivingTuesday, a nationwide effort to support causes through online shopping. For the second year in a row, brands and nonprofits are promoting the biggest season for consumer spending as the best time for giving.
Here are some of our favorite tools to help America support and spread the good word about conscious capitalism this GivingTuesday.
Google is dedicating its Google+ Hangouts to host a 12-hour online “Hangout-a-thon” for everyone interested in donating to their favorite charities today. A slew of celebrities and prominent organizations, such as UNICEF, Charity Water, Save the Children, the Malala Fund, The Trevor Project, and others are participating to wrangle support and eyeballs. Viewers of the stream are invited to contribute to campaigns via the “Shoppable Hangouts” app, which allows consumers to buy products during the event.
There’s no better day than today to follow the crowd. The international crowdfunding platform, Indiegogo, is supporting the GivingTuesday movement by contributing $1 for every $20 donated to all official GivingTuesday campaigns.
Charity Navigator, America’s leading independent charity evaluator provides a wealth of nonprofit data to help philanthropists across the board decide how and where they want to give back to their communities.
The Giving Day Playbook offers best practices, examples, and templates for community foundations that want to plan and execute a special Giving Day.
The GiveBack360 platform facilitates greater giving by providing nonprofits, merchants, and individuals access to its network at no charge. The company’s goal is to donate 50% of every dollar it generates off the top.
GreatNonprofits, the largest nonprofit review resource, recently published its 2013 Top-Rated List and #Giving Guide. In celebration of GivingTuesday, the site has been posting about top-rated nonprofits in over 30 categories every day leading up to #GivingTuesday to inspire generosity this holiday season.
