Informacam is a mobile app developed by WITNESS and The Guardian Project that aims to solve the issue of digital verification. Often when citizen video is taken of incidents of police brutality or sexual harassment it is difficult to verify important information such as date and location. Informacam embeds images and videos with metadata, or, in other words, answers the questions “who” “where” “when”, and then encrypts and sends the files to a trusted source. This information is essential because images and videos with this type of “stamp” can be used as evidence in court to help bring survivors of violence to justice. It is available now in Beta.
